At the beginning of his career Charles showed promise with his watercolours and line and wash drawings. There seem to be none after 1900. Perhaps he then relied more on photography to capture scenes and events. The slide shows below are from two albums.
- The first sequence is from 1888, perhaps on passage to India, though the last is from a year later.
- The second is from 1990 around the Medway area, presumably when he was based at Chatham.
- The third is the most extensive and shows scenes from Gibraltar, Tangiers and Algeciras many dated 1891-92.
- The Fourth has various scenes from Hampshire from 1891 onwards, including fire tenders and a railway engine at an unknown location.
